WELCOME TO THE BATCH OF 2025

FAQ

Membership

When do membership applications open?

September 2nd - 15th 2024. If you’re new and know a team member, have them refer you. There is a special referral form for this that team members are aware of.

When do I find out if I made the team?

September 19th. We will contact the successful applicants via email. There will also be a social media post to advise you to check your email. If you're unsure if you made the team or not please email us boss@cupcakecartel.org.

Do you accept everyone that applies?

No. A big part of maintaining a positive team culture is ensuring we have the right mix of people. It is important for us to choose athletes that fit with our fun and inclusive nature who have a triathlon addiction.

How does membership work?

Membership runs annually from September 2024 - September 2025. This is the only time you can join the team. We do not accept members throughout the year. Once you’re in the team, you’re in. Like dropping off your kids for their first day at school it can be hard to leave.

How much does it cost?

For a 12month membership the cost is AUD$270 | USD$183 | CAN$246 | NZD$292. You local price may vary slightly due to currency exchange rates.

Why do I have to pay to be part of the team?

The annual fee covers the ongoing admin support from Alise and Cal. We are a small team that takes care of the team 24/7 as our baby. We use the membership fee to cover the cost of the team pack and additional expenses associated with travel and team events. This includes sending captains to team races and covering their costs.

It is our role to ensure we leverage ourselves and the Cartel to offer exceptional value to our team sponsors and athletes. We are active on a daily basis with our team, nurturing the environment we look to create. We’re responding to emails, facilitating support and attending to a variety of other requests. Our full time gig is making sure our athletes are well taken care of and happy.

Where are team members based?

65% of the current team is from the United States and Canada. Australia is the next largest contingent followed by New Zealand. We have a small but very loyal number of Cuppies in Asia and Europe.

We have created regional pages so you can better connect with team members in your area: North America, Oceania & Europe.

We have fixed rate shipping costs to make shipping affordable for everyone and have a North American and Australian returns portal to keep any return shipping costs to a minimum.

What do we want from our members?

We want you to have a great experience being part of an exciting and innovative team. We want you to feel part of something special. We want you to wear our team kit with pride and a sense of belonging in what is largely an individual sport. Look after your fellow Cuppies, support them online and in person. Rally behind them when you can see they’re going through a tough patch and celebrate their success in good times.

We’re here to create a genuine team environment and build a desirable brand that you’re proud of. So what are you waiting for?

Can I join as a "supporter"?

Yes. If you simply want to be part of the team, saddle up the horse* and jump on. Several of our biggest supporters are former athletes who still want to be involved in some capacity. You will still be entitled to full athlete benefits. We offer plenty of supporter apparel each year so you can represent proudly.

*(note: we don't offer stables for horses yet)

Do I have to be fast to be on The Cupcake Cartel?

No. Although our baby sitter charges by the hour so your efficiency to get around the course will be appreciated. We have athletes of all abilities, some speedier than others, and others who get great bang for their buck by being on the course longer than others.

Im new to triathlon, can I still join?

Yes, you'll get a ton of benefit!

Can I be on multiple teams?

Yes, thats fine with us. We find most team members join multiple teams initially until they find the cuppie community.

General

Do you offer coaching?

No. We are not a coaching service. Most athletes have their own coaches or are self coached. We are happy to recommend coaches as we have a large network.

Do I have to buy the team race kit?

No. There is absolutely no obligation to buy the 2025 team race kit if you have a Cupcake Cartel race kit from a previous year. We understand everyones financial situation varies. There will be opportunities throughout the year to buy CUPCKE Apparel and other fun designs.

Am I required to wear the race kit?

We strongly encourage athletes to wear the team kit for at least 3 races per year, especially for targeted team events. If you are on another team that requires you wear their kit, you should consider picking one team or the other. We want athletes that want to wear team kit and recognise each other on race day. It makes it easier for us to support you from the sidelines as well as to post on social media.

What if my team kit doesnt fit?

We have an exchange window once everyone receives their team kit. We cater for everyone from 2XS through to 7XL. Surplus kit is then available to purchase once exchanges conclude in February.

Do I have to race Ironman distance?

No. You can race whatever distance you choose. We cater for all distances. We support the Ironman Tri Club Global competition as this covers both Ironman 70.3 and Ironman events. The competition is global and everyone who finishes scores points. Its a great way for everyone to feel part of the competition no matter what speed you race at.
